What If?

It was the year 2001, we had been married less than a year and we were at the Door of Faith Orphanage in Mexico talking to DJ and Lynette, the couple who run the whole place. A month earlier we made the choice together that someday, somehow, we wanted to take care [...]

Marble Shark

Khlong Lan.  About 27 miles away from the Thai/Myanmar (Burma) border. Hot and sweaty. 260 miles from Chiang Mai.

The marble shark circles.

The marble shark spots his prey.

From the deep, the marble shark surges toward the unsuspecting seal.

DING! DING! DING! DING! WINNER! WINNER! WINNER!

We together are the champions.

Children’s Home-August 29, 2009

Chala and the Refugee Kids

Once Chala fought with the Shan State Army to defend innocent villagers against the Burmese army that was intent on enslaving and killing them. Now he has about 40 children that he is struggling to keep alive. He found them all in the jungle, where he once ran and hid himself before crossing the border [...]

The way things are, and can be

Time and time again I have been drawn to ask the question of why some societies fail while others prosper. Many explanations have surfaced over the years. Some of the worst address supposed inherent differences in intelligence between ethnic groups. Apart from this being evil it is totally lacking in any logic or evidence. Throughout [...]
