How you can help

Posted on August 13th, 2008

The Charis Project has a lot of really great people supporting us. It is wonderful to have such an enthusiastic group of friends who take up this cause and make it their own. Thank-you everyone for all that you do.

What you can do

Donate

Obviously it takes money to do this. All of your donations go directly to The Charis Project programs. Right now we have no administrative overhead.

Donations will go first toward our short term and then our long term goals as the short term goals are met. Right now you can specify whether you would like your donation to go toward Chala to help take care of the refugee kids or to the costs of setting up a base in Chiang Mai.

You can mail in a check or money order or use your credit card online through a secure paypal account.

Spread the Word

The more people who know about us the better. If you have a blog or a website we would love it if you would link to us and share our story and the story of the Lahu people.

Tell your friends and family about what is happening, and what we are doing to help. Tell everyone. We are.

Buy Tribal

The hill tribe people in Burma and northern Thailand are fantastic handcrafters. They weave beautiful fabric on looms made out of sticks and turn it into shirts, handbags, skirts, belts, etc.

Stay tuned for an online store where you can buy these items. We've paid the crafters at substantially higher than what they are used to getting, and all profits from the sales will go directly inot funding community programs that promote literacy, agriculture and sustainable development.

Use your vote for Burma

You can use your voice to keep Burma and the plight of it's residents in the agenda when your federal reperesentative goes to work. Write, call, send e-mails, join an advocacy group. Let your elected representatives know that you care about what's going on and you want your government to help.

Volunteer

We could use some help around here.

If you want to teach basic literacy to a Lahu village, let us know.

If you are good at web design, we could really use your help.

If you are good at fundraising, please let us know.

If you are super creative and have ideas that could help we want you on board.

If you have a background in business and are interested in teaching seminars we will set it up.

Pray

If you pray, please pray for us. Please pray for Burma. Please pray for the Lahu and the Karen and the Shan, and all of the other unique and vibrant tribes that struggle every day to survive.

Please pray for us for safety and health. Please pray for peace and joy.

If the One that you pray to is good, we welcome all prayers.
